Book the man who would be king (1888) tells the story of two British noncommissioned officers in India, who become kings of Kafiristan, a remote part of Afghanistan. The story is inspired by the exploits of James Brooke and the travels of American adventurer Josiah Harlan.
In 1975 it was adapted to the cinema by acclaimed director John Huston. This time starring Sean Connery and Michael Caine as the adventurers and Christopher Plummer as Kipling.

This short novel, considered one of the best in Kipling, has been brilliantly illustrated by Fernando Vicente.
