Book “New York Spirits”

Alberto Gil | Fernando Vicente

New York Spirits Book

A trip to New York through 25 mythical characters.  Such as Federico García Lorca, Houdini, Marilyn Monroe, Frida Kahlo and John Lennon.

Synopsis of the book Spirits of New York

Houdini and his escape numbers on Coney Island or Billie Holiday looking for her luck in the Harlem nightclubs.

Lorca as a witness to the panic that looms over Wall Street in October 29. And Frida Kahlo lying on the railing of the Brooklyn Bridge.

From the end of the 19th century to the present day, New York has exerted a powerful attraction on the world of literature, thought, politics, entertainment, cinema, music and the arts in general.

This makes it one of the great urban spaces through which people who have already disappeared, key figures in our recent history, have travelled.

The New York Spirits Book evokes the vital vicissitudes of this gallery of universal characters and uses illustration as a means of graphically capturing their links with certain places in the city.
