\"National<\/a>Prado Fernando Prado Museum<\/p>\n

200th anniversary of the National Pinacoteca of Madrid illustrated by Fernando Vicente.
\nThe Prado Museum celebrates its bicentennial in 2019 and the protagonists of its paintings come out to celebrate it.<\/p>\n

On November 10, 1819 the Prado National Museum opened its doors for the first time.<\/p>\n

The building that Juan de Villanueva had designed as a Natural History Cabinet finally hosted an important part of the royal collections.<\/p>\n

Over the years, private donations and purchases were expanding the funds of the art gallery.<\/p>\n

During the Civil War the works of art were protected from possible bombardment with sandbags on the ground floor of the museum.<\/p>\n

Finally, on the recommendation of the League of Nations the collection traveled to Valencia and Geneva. In the end they had to return quickly to Madrid after the outbreak of World War II.<\/p>\n
