To commemorate the 160th anniversary of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, I created the poster for the 35th Autumn Fair of Old and Antique Books in 2025, featuring Alice as the central character and a figure who is part of the collective imagination.
I wanted to give a nod to children’s and young adult literature, of which there are so many examples at the fair. I thought that the rabbit hole where Alice chases the rabbit, which Lewis Carroll himself describes as having bookshelves, could well be a reflection of the antique book fair. So we can see Alice floating as she falls, reading a book and surrounded by all those characters that are already familiar to everyone.
